Tips on what equipment to choose when going from amatuer to Pro...

Cameras:
  • When it comes to low and medium price range semi and professional cameras Canon, Nikon are on top of the food chain and then there is everyone else. I think that general consensus is that Nikon is just one tiny step ahead of Canon in cameras department but Canon has better lenses. I do not know if I agree with that since both brands are coming with new innovations each year and popularity balance shifts from model to model like a teeter totter. Personally when looking for new camera first thing to consider is sensor size in general cameras with bigger sensor take better pictures regardless of Megapixels, those SLR's are more expensive but that feature is well worth investing in it. Full frame cameras start at about $2000.

Sony Alpha 99 Price: $2,799.99            Slrhut.com £1749.95

Image Stabilization  "IS"

.Another feature to consider is Image stabilization. That is a great and useful feature especially while using long lenses (nature and wild life photography). One thing to remember is that not all brands install IS on the cameras, Canon for example manufacture Lenses with IS therefore cameras does not have Image stabilization.
While shopping for cameras also pay attention to Autofocus there is many types of autofocus feature one most important thing is number of mattering points the more the better. Cameras with more mattering points can detect a subject in more parts of the frame.
I also pay attention to size and resolution of the screen, grip, weight, size, color balance and placement of controls of a camera but this attributes could be considered pros or cons depending on personal preferences.
There is way more we could talk about but for purpose of this article I would like to stick with
basics.
